Aquaculture Project Establishment and Optimization

Pisco supports clients planning to invest in new or existing aquaculture facilities, with the development of realistic project plans or with independent review of plans developed by others.

Pisco engages across the project lifecycle

From the first project idea to steady-state operations, we deliver technical feasible studies, independent technical due diligence and ongoing support though detailed design, construction and operation.

Technical Feasibility Study

Pisco delivers comprehensive Technical Feasibility Studies that provide a robust foundation for investment decisions as well as information to potential partners and authorities.

Our studies integrate biological, operational, technical, and economic considerations into a coherent, decision-ready business case.

Outputs

  • Insert and harvest plan
  • Technical Design
  • Site requirements
  • Consumptions of water, electricity, feed
  • Profits; Revenues,
  • OPEX
  • CAPEX

Critical Assumptions

  • Business strategy
  • Species specific zootechnical
  • Site-specific conditions
  • Environmental requirements
  • Risk profile
A technical Feasibility Study typically includes

1 ) Project and Business Framework

  • Definition of project objectives and scope.
  • Species selection and production targets.
  • Profitability targets and market intelligence.
  • Site-specific constraints, risks, and identified opportunities.

2) Production and harvest planning

  • Detailed production and harvest plans.
  • Required number, size, and configuration of production units and tanks.
  • Species-specific water quality requirements (e.g. O₂, CO₂, nitrate, flow rates).
  • Biological assumptions (growth rates, mortalities, FCR)
  • Operational assumptions (grading strategy, fish movements, maximum densities)

3 ) Technical design and Specification

  • Technical design developed to a level sufficient for reliable OPEX and CAPEX estimation.
  • Technical project descriptions and specifications.
  • Site, building, and system layouts.
  • Equipment, system, and material lists.
  • Process flow diagrams for the facility and key systems

4) Financial Assessment

  • Revenue estimation based on the production and harvest plan and market-based price assumptions.
  • OPEX estimation based on consumptions derived from the design and production plan, combined with market unit costs.
  • CAPEX estimation based on detailed design lists, experience-based data, and selected supplier quotations

5) Consolidated Reporting

  • Structured and transparent reports suitable for internal decision-making.
  • Documentation tailored for investors, suppliers, lenders, and authorities

6) Review, supervision & support

  • Collaboratory design support
  • Detailed Design review
  • Construction supervision
  • Commissioning assistance
Independent assessment, on the investor's side of the table

Technical Due Diligence

Pisco provides independent Technical Due Diligence and Progress Monitoring services that support informed investment decisions and effective risk management throughout the project implementation.

Depth of review

Pisco calibrates the depth of the due diligence reviews to the client’s requirements and timing, and to the maturity of the project. The reviews range from an early first‑pass assessment of the investor deck to a full technical due diligence that evaluates all detailed assumptions and plans

Investor Deck Assessment

At an early stage, Pisco can perform a focused review of investor presentations and project material for an early indication of project realism and value drivers. The assessment evaluates the credibility of key financial projections using relevant industry benchmarks such as:

  • Production index
  • Revenues per kg
  • OPEX per kg
  • CAPEX per kg

Pre-Red Flag Review

The objective is early identification of major risks or gaps before significant capital is committed. A targeted review of the three most critical elements:

  • Production plan
  • Financial plan
  • Critical technical design criteria

Red Flag Review

A structured review aligned with the principles of a full Technical Due Diligence, with depth and scope adapted to the maturity of the design and project documentation at the time of review.

Technical Due Diligence

A comprehensive, independent Technical Due Diligence covering biological, operational, technical, and economic assumptions. The level of detail reflects the maturity of the project and provides a solid basis for investment, financing, or transaction decisions. The full TDD is usually required by banks and financial institutions prior to finalizing loan agreements.

Progress Monitoring

During project execution and facility establishment, banks and other financial institutions often require independent progress monitoring. Pisco provides objective monitoring to verify that construction, procurement, costs, schedule, and technical execution are progressing in line with approved plans and budgets, reducing risk for investors and lenders, while supporting successful project delivery.

Progress insight - From agreement til operation.

Bankable

Plans grounded in realistic biology, technology and economics, built to stand up to investor scrutiny.

Independent

Due diligence answering to the investor, not to the project sponsor or technology vendor.

Full lifecycle

From first concept and red flag review through construction monitoring into commissioning.
